Ramadan Nights Lakemba

​Ramadan Nights Lakemba will be celebrated in May and June, as part of the annual Ramadan Festival by the City of Canterbury Bankstown.

Council will be hosting the newly named event, with assistance from an advisory committee which includes local business operators.

Mayor Asfour said this year’s festival will be held in Haldon Street and Railway Parade, Lakemba, from Sunday 5 May to Thursday 6 June.

"The festival has grown in size over the years to a point where it’s attracting up to 20,000 people a night," he said.

"Last year, thousands of people attended over the month and we anticipate that figure will continue to grow. So, we need to make sure we introduce new systems, to enable crowds of that size to continue to have the best experience possible.

"We want them to keep coming back and tell their friends and family to do the same."

Improvements being considered include:

Mayor Asfour said applications are now being taken for stallholders.

"Part of the requirement of being a stallholder is they must attend one of our free award-winning safe food handling workshops. This is critical to maintaining the great reputation the festival has," Mayor Asfour said.

Businesses interested in registering to be stallholders can do so online at cb.city/Ramadan.

"I’m excited to see Haldon Street and Railway Parade being transformed into a late-night Arabian bazaar, where residents and visitors can explore the unique food and cultural experiences we offer," Mayor Asfour said.

"It’s events like these that make Canterbury-Bankstown incredibly special – they highlight our diversity, bring our community closer together and, above all, celebrate our multiculturalism."
