Official Media Release from the Office of Pru Goward Wednesday, 13 February 2019
Member for Goulburn Pru Goward joined Liberal Candidate for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman to announce a Saving our Species grant of $350,000 for its work in Thinking inside the Box Gum Grassy Woodlands on Friday. The project will see the protection and enhancement of 260ha of Box Gum Grassy Woodlands across Boorowa, Upper Lachlan Shire, and Yass Valley.
Ms Goward congratulated the Local Land Services Senior Natural Resource Management Advisor, Melissa Henry for winning the grant to support the significant work in managing our natural resources. “In this area we are facing the environmental challenge of loss of key habitats – which are vital to the survival of a number of threatened species,” Ms Goward said.
“The work done by South East LLS is essential to ensure the survival of Box Gum Grassy Woodlands for the long term,” Ms Tuckerman said.
"We are grateful for this additional funding. It will allow us to work with more land managers in protecting the natural assets on their farms and preserving vital habitat for key species like the superb parrot” Ms Henry said.
NSW Environment Minister Gabrielle Upton said that 28 organisations across NSW were sharing in more than $8 million of funding. “The projects will deliver help to threatened species and threatened ecological communities,” the minister said.
The Saving our Species Contestable Grant Program is a partnership between the Saving our Species program and the NSW Environmental Trust. The NSW Government’s Saving our Species program is investing $100 million over five years to secure the future of NSW threatened plants and animals.
