The City of Swan is inviting residents to the opening of the newly renovated Beechboro Community Hub, with a free morning tea and behind the scenes tour.

The event will be held at 10am on Saturday, March 16, and there will be live music and a presentation from the artists whose works are featured in the building.

The purpose of the work was to relocate the Altone Place Office from Titus Road in Lockridge to the Hub and to offer combined central services for residents.

Previously known as Altone Community Hub, the new Beechboro Community Hub includes the library, Swan Active, Your Café and Place office.

City of Swan Mayor David Lucas said the changes will improve the user experience and provide important services and support for the local community.

"We value what we do and the people we do it for, and these improvements will help us deliver stronger services for our community," he said.

Altone Ward Councillor Andrew Kiely said there is a spectacular range of creative artworks on display at the facility.

"Public art creates meaning and identity for our public spaces, and is a way to celebrate the diverse culture of our community," he said.

"We have sourced a diverse body of artworks for this facility which all have a connection to Western Australia."

The building includes a painting by artist Siné Macpherson. The work is from her Finding Colour series, where Siné developed a system to paint all the colour words found in a number of dictionaries.

There are also two oversized porcelain vessels created by artist Warrick Palmateer.

The vessels are fired locally in South Guildford, and the clay is sourced near Red Hill in Gidgegannup.

Local artist Peter Dailey has also created a mural of magical creatures for the children’s section of the library.

The Beechboro Community Hub is located at 332 Benara Road, Beechboro. For more information about the event, head to our events page.
