Livingstone Shire Council is inviting local ladies to help celebrate Queensland Women’s Week in our region with a special event on 13 March at St Ursula’s College.
With this year’s theme titled ‘Invest in women. Invest in the future’, Council is proud to bring to the women of our region, an opportunity to attend the event, Women – Let’s Talk About Money, so they can learn more about managing their finances.
Community Development and Support Councillor Jan Kelly said this year’s theme recognises that improving women’s and girls’ financial literacy and capability improves their economic security that can benefit the entire community.
“Queensland Women’s Week not only highlights the importance of women and girls and their contribution to our community, but also highlights issues can that face women across the country every day. These issues can include finances,” Cr Kelly said.
“Women’s financial disadvantage and economic insecurity have far-reaching impacts that can span generations, with many factors influencing women’s ability to achieve economic security.
“In support of the theme, Council has tagged the event, ‘Be Fighting Fit Financially in 2019’, which will feature workshops and information stalls including Anglicare Financial Resilience, Angilicare Emergency Relief, UnitingCare Community, Salvation Army, Anti-Discrimination Commission QLD, CQ Financial Counselling, and Country Women’s Association Country Kitchens.
“Council’s Chief Financial Officer Andrea Ellis will also feature as one of the guest speakers on the day. Andrea will share her own money experiences and encourage all women to have their own money conversations with friends and family.
“Council would like to sincerely thank the Queensland Government for their funding support towards this event, as well as information stallholders and local sponsors. We hope this event will benefit as many women as possible and assist them in their future financial planning.”
