Weekend Sunrise to visit Bathurst
Tune into Weekend Sunrise this Saturday morning (2, March) as the show’s weather presenter, James Tobin, spends the morning in Bathurst uncovering the region’s hidden gems. The weather crosses will showcase Bathurst’s diversity of experiences available for both visitors and residents.
Installation of CCTV network
Stage one of the Smart Cities CCTV installation in the Bathurst CBD will commence soon with underboring works on William Street (BMEC to Keppel Street) and Keppel Street (William Street to Bentinck Street). More information on Council’s CBD CCTV project can be found on the Smart Communities page on Council’s website.
Construction of new taxi shelter
A new shelter on Howick Street near the Stockland Shopping Centre will be constructed. Temporary changes to pedestrian and taxi access will be in place while works are underway. The taxi zone will be relocated towards Bentinck Street to the unused bus zone. There will be minimal impact to traffic in the area.

Fundraising at the Bathurst Cycling Classic

Waste2Art
Entries for this year’s Waste 2 Art exhibition and competition are now open. Waste 2 Art is a recycled art competition which challenges the way we think about waste, there are categories for everyone from pre-school aged children through to aspiring and professional artists.

Celebrations for International Women’s Day (IWD)
Council is holding two free events to celebrate International Women’s Day.
Balance with Bubbles
This event will provide women with an opportunity to relax and enjoy a share platter, a glass of bubbles (alcoholic & non-alcoholic) while enjoying music from two local musicians in the beautiful surroundings of Machattie Park opposite the Begonia House. The event is a celebration of women and the importance of balance in everyday life on Friday, 8 March from 5.00pm -7.00pm.
All About Women
A livestream session will be held at BMEC from the Sydney Opera House Sunday, 10 March from 1.00pm to 5.30pm. All About Women features emerging new voices from around the world speaking to future directions in feminism.
Sustainable Living Expo
Craig Reucassel, host of ABC television’s popular series “The War on Waste” will be the guest speaker at this year’s Sustainable Living Expo on Saturday, 23 March. The expo runs from 8.00am to 12.30pm and will be held in conjunction with the Bathurst Farmers’ Markets at the Bathurst Showgrounds. It will also feature family entertainment Zoo to You and The Radical Recyclers. Entry is by gold coin donation to Bathurst Lions Club. Play Like a Panther Super Clinic
Rub shoulders with the Penrith Panthers NRL squad at the ‘Play Like a Panther Super Clinic’. The clinic is open to children 5-12 years of age to learn rugby league skills and drills. All participants must register online at www.bathurstnrl.com.au. The clinic will be held on Thursday 28 March, from 4pm-5pm at the Bathurst Sports Ground.
Living Legends nominations
Nominations are now open for the 2019 Living Legends awards. The title, Living Legend, recognises the achievements of individuals and the way they have contributed positively to the community
An individual will be considered for the Living Legends list if they currently living within the Bathurst Regional Council area and have contributed to making Bathurst a great place to live and visit. Living Legends are announced on Proclamation Day in May each year.

Bathurst Region Macquarie Medal Project/Scholarship 2019/20
Applications are now invited for a supporting grant or scholarship, under Section 356 of the Local Government Act 1993, to undertake a major work or learning in the following areas:
1. Conservation, maintenance and adaptive reuse projects of heritage items or at risk buildings and sites of heritage value within the Bathurst Region.
2. Promotion and interpretation of the history and heritage of the Bathurst region, its building and places, natural environment, people and projects and their embedded stories and enhance community reflection and understanding about the Bathurst region’s history.
3. Support the learning in heritage management and conservation.
4. Foster and support the growth of heritage trades and practices.
A grant of up to $10,000 (paid over two years) is available to the winning project or area of learning.
Applications for funding must be made on Council’s application form which is available on Council’s website at www.bathurst.nsw.gov.au or from Council’s Environmental, Planning and Building Services Department, Civic Centre, Russell Street, Bathurst.
The closing date for applications is Friday, 15 March 2019.
George and Howick Street Roundabout Upgrade

Free Public WiFi Trial
Council has installed a free public WiFi system in the CBD and access will also be available at Chifley Dam this Tuesday. We are asking the community to test the system and provide feedback before it is launched later this year.

Community Participation Plan
In March 2018, changes to the Environmental Planning and Assessment (EPA) Act 1979 set out new requirements for Councils to prepare a Community Participation Plan (CPP). All Planning Authorities, including the Department of Planning and Environment and Councils, will be required to have in place a Community Participation Plan by 1 December 2019.
Companion Animal Management Plan
The proposed plan incorporates recent changes to legislation and provides a framework to address responsibilities associated with companion animal ownership and other related issues within the Bathurst Region.
Development Control Plan Changes
Council has prepared an amendment to the Bathurst Region Development Control Plan (DCP) 2014. The purpose of this amendment is to update Chapter 10 – Urban Design and Heritage Management to include archaeological provisions for the former Milltown Cemetery and Wattle Flat Mining Areas.
Use of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems/Drones Policy
The Draft policy outlines parameters to be adhered to when operating a RPAS/Drone for Council use.
