Campaspe Shire Council is encouraging the community to nominate a person or local not-for-profit organisation for an award in this year’s Campaspe Community Volunteer Awards Program.
Mayor Cr Adrian Weston said the awards formally acknowledge and thank everyday people who make extraordinary contributions to improve the lives of our residents.
“Volunteers are the heart and soul of our community and we are very fortunate to have so many dedicated groups and individuals committed to making others happier,” Cr Weston said.
“They often fly under the radar not expecting special praise,” however their efforts speak volumes and the awards ensure these unsung heroes get the recognition they deserve.”
“Many of our community sporting clubs and schools, service clubs, churches and emergency service agencies would not be where they are today without the collective contribution of the many enthusiastic volunteers who give freely of their time,” Cr Weston said.
Awards are presented in the following categories:
Individual: For an outstanding contribution and achievement in volunteerism by a person
Young person: For an outstanding contribution and achievement in volunteerism by a person aged under 25 years
Organisation: For an outstanding contribution and achievement in volunteerism by a not-for-profit organisation which supports volunteers.
‘Campaspe Shire is indeed, a more vibrant, connected and resilient place because of the positive difference volunteers make within our community,” Cr Weston said.
Coinciding with National Volunteer Week in May, the winners will be announced at a special ceremony to be held on Thursday, 23 May at Radcliffe’s in Echuca. The winners of the individual and young person categories will each receive a prize to the value of $250 and the winner of the organisation category will receive a prize to the value of $550.
The closing date for 2019 Volunteer Award nominations is Friday, 12 April.
Nomination forms are available from council’s website or from Customer Service Centre’s.
