Construction is starting on the state-of-the-art $29 million Ivanhoe Library and Cultural Hub.
A special sod-turning event was held on Sunday 3 March at the site where Banyule Deputy Mayor, Cr Alison Champion said that when complete, the facility would be a magnificent community hub that would support the community’s vast range of learning and engagement, and cultural and artistic endeavours.
“The re-imagined Ivanhoe Library and Cultural Hub has been designed to provide a welcoming place for the community, centred on curiosity, creativity and connectivity,” Cr Champion said.
The state-of-the-art facility will offer:
a modern, accessible library; an art gallery, with community spaces and artists’ studio, to host touring exhibitions and the Banyule Art Collection; community meeting rooms and working spaces; an informal theatrette; and a café.The project is expected to be complete by August 2020. The existing library will remain open during this period.
