Council has offered to lease an area of land in Fairway Park, Coldstream, to Lyrebird College, to establish a school for children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder.
The area of land, about 2500 square metres between the Coldstream Community Centre and preschool, will be leased to Lyrebird College for five years, with the potential of a four year extension.
The lease proposal was unanimously supported by Councillors at their meeting on Tuesday, 26 February.
The Council meeting followed an extensive consultation period with the community, from December 2018-February 2019, which resulted in 77 formal submissions.
The majority of submissions received were supportive of the proposal, with a small number of objections received and several questions regarding aspects of the proposal.
As a result of conversations with adjacent property owners, the proposed lease’s site area was reduced, from 4000 square metres to 2500 square metres, to ensure vegetation and property access would be unaffected by any development of the lease area.
Lyrebird College will now need to submit a planning application for any buildings or works to occur on the site..
Any planning applications for the site will go through their own notification and consultation period as they arise.
