Council Works – Week ending 1st March 2019

“For the week ending 1st March, the following key works were completed by Council staff”, noted Council’s Mayor, Cr. Ray Thompson.

“Within the urban Lithgow area last week, Council staff continued worked towards the repair of burst services at Railway Parade, Rabaul Street, Tony Luchetti Showground, Martini Parade, Hassans Walls Road, Main Street and Lithgow Street, Lithgow. Council continues to appreciate the patience of the community while assets are restored in these areas. Additionally, to directly assist members of the Lithgow community staff saw to the replacement of pram ramps on Chifley Road to assist with local disability access, completed building repairs at the RFS Meadow Flat shed and completed stormwater repairs at the Lithgow Cemetery and La Salle School to assist with residential stormwater overland flow concerns.”

“Last week, Council’s rural staff have focussed on sealed road maintenance and repairs”, said Mayor Thompson. “Rural works staff have been working towards the final bitumen sealing date for 2018/19 of the 14 March by completing preparation of Skelly Road, Lidsdale, Ilford Street, Portland and Paine Street, Portland. In addition, asphalt patching has occurred on Mill Creek Road, Blackheath Creek Road, Pipers Flat Road, Wallerawang Tip, Hazel Street, Portland, William Street, Portland, Falnash Street, Portland, Diamond Swamp Road, Tarana and throughout Cullen Bullen. Staff should be congratulated on their efforts this week,” said Mayor Thompson.

“Lastly, it seems Council have finally managed to reign in its backlog of mowing,” said Mayor Thompson. “While Council’s mowing requirements are ongoing, the backlog of requirements in this area has been reduced considerably and as such seconded staff can return to their daily duties. Through the local media, it is acknowledged that our neighbouring Councils are also experiencing difficulty in maintaining levels of service with regard to mowing and I’d like to thank our local community for their ongoing patience and assistance during this time.”
