Grab your drumsticks and crank up the guitars, Council is searching for young rock bands to take part in a concert to showcase local talent.
Sunset Sounds will feature four of the best young bands in the area, giving them a chance to perform in front of industry professionals and the public.
The event will be held at Campbelltown Arts Centre and will be the first of three concerts this year focusing on different music genres: rock, hip hop and contemporary.
The rock edition will be first on 12 April, during Youth Week, with the other shows following throughout the year.
“This is an opportunity to support the young talented musicians we have in our community and provide them with the platform to achieve their goals,” said Mayor George Brticevic.
“This will be a night not to be missed. It will give them a chance to hone their craft and get feedback from industry professionals, as well as valuable exposure,” Cr Brticevic said.
“After the success of previous youth music initiatives that had a diversity of acts, we’ve created a forum for groups to showcase their particular musical genre among their peers.”
All band members must be aged between 12 and 24 years and applications submitted online before 4pm on Friday, 8 March.
A panel of young people and music professionals will select the four bands to perform from among all entries.
Sunset Sounds is not a competition and each act will be provided with feedback from industry professionals. Among other things, bands will receive advice on stage presence, musicianship, originality and song writing.
The program is presented as part of Youth Week and has been made possible through a grant from Music NSW and is proudly sponsored by Guitar World in City Arcade, Queen Street.
The performance is open to the public and goes from 6pm-9pm, Friday, 12 April, at Campbelltown Arts Centre, with tickets $5 online or at the door.
Submit your expression of interest (EOI) for Sunset Sounds.
The event is drug and alcohol free, with all ages welcome and proceeds being put back into youth music events in the area.
