Gladstone Regional Council is pleased to announce their successful bid for Queensland State Government funding for the Yarwun Water Treatment Plant upgrade.

Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett welcomed the funding, which will allow for the continued growth of the Gladstone State Development Area (GSDA).

“The Yarwun Waste Water Treatment plant upgrade was shortlisted alongside 53 other projects across the state, so it is fantastic to see the project gain this much-needed funding,” Councillor Burnett said.

“It great to see that our region is fast establishing as the region to develop innovations in energy whether it be hydrogen, LNG, bio-fuels, coal, solar or other forms for renewables.

Cr Burnett said projects such as this one provides the infrastructure to attract future projects and highlight the region’s strategic advantages.

“The approved funding of $1,183,700 will be used to replace the existing plant,” Cr Burnett said.

“We have seen funding from this program go to great use within our region, including the Agnes Water Waste Transfer Station upgrade, Boyne Island cark park, Gladstone Waste Water Treatment Plant upgrade, Gladstone A01 sewer upgrade, Kirkwood Reservoir and the Miriam Vale Water Treatment Plant upgrade.”

The funding is provided under the Queensland Government’s Building our Regions program.

Building our Regions is a $445 million targeted regional infrastructure program for local government projects.

The purpose of the program is to provide funding for critical infrastructure in regional areas of the state that meet the specific needs of regional communities and supports economic development, including generating jobs.
