Go deep into the gypsy heart of Transylvania to Dracula’s Castle in next Armchair Travel Session!

Held by Livingstone Shire Council Library – this free series of presentations give residents the opportunity to share their travel stories and experiences with the community, while inspiring others to embark on a journey themselves.

This Armchair Travel session will be hosted by Anni and Hughi Simmons, Deb Wilkinson and Council’s own Library, Arts and Culture Coordinator Julie Bickley on Wednesday, 13 March, as they recount their 300km journey following the trail deep into the gypsy heart of Transylvania to Dracula’s Castle.

Yeppoon local Anni said she’d always had a fascination for the legend of Count Dracula, and embarked on a journey with her husband and a group of friends to some of Romania’s most noteworthy destinations which formed part of a more broad adventure across Europe in August 2018.

“When we arrived in Romania our first stop was Cluj-Napoca where we were delighted to experience the true Transylvanian lifestyle with traditional dances in the town square, the medieval and gothic architecture and vibrant nightlife,” Anni said.

“As our journey continued, we visited the small mediaeval fortified city of Sighisoara which was a wonderful highlight, before reaching the enormous history museum of Turda Salt Mine which was another incredible experience.

“The final leg of our Transylvanian adventure was of course Bran Castle, or commonly known as Dracula’s Castle and is one of the most visited castles in Europe, inspiring the fascinating legend of Count Dracula.

“We all certainly fell in love with the rustic charm and authenticity of the historic region that is Romania; it’s a really unique place that takes you back in time. Encountering things like horse and carts still being used made it even more appealing. “We’re very excited to share this with our community and show them that there are plenty of places off the beaten track to explore that offer a more genuine experience.”
