Released 5 March 2019
Striking new signs have been installed at 25 beach access locations around Broome.
The Beach Access Signs have been designed to be consistent and easily recognisable and include valuable safety information specific to each location.
The new signs will serve as the community’s main alert to advise of current conditions and any hazards they should be aware of when going to the beach.
When beaches are closed the Shire and Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions will replace the “Caution” signage panel with the “Beach Closed” panel.
The DBCA will also continue to erect portable and temporary A-frame signs when a crocodile sighting has been confirmed and an incident response is in progress.
Each sign also includes a green box in the top right corner with the unique Beach Emergency Number which is part of a state-wide coding system to improve emergency response and should be quoted in an emergency.
