Waste and recycling are no joke! From 1 April your bin day may change

Released 1 March 2019

Kerbside waste and recycling bin collection days will change for some Broome residents from 1 April 2019.

The Shire of Broome provides a weekly kerbside waste collection and fortnightly recycling collection through contractor ToxFree.

The current collection route has been in place for many years and as Broome has grown it has become increasingly inefficient.

Issues include inconsistent collection boundaries that can cause confusion for residents, and situations including opposite sides of some streets being collected on different days.

Inappropriate bin pick-up days in the light industrial area means bins have to be left out over weekends, increasing the likelihood of them being damaged.

Recycling collection will remain fortnightly but from 1 April will be spread across two weeks instead of one to allow more efficient processing of recyclables at ToxFree’s facility in Archer St.

ToxFree will work with residents as they adjust to the changes and provide assistance if collection days are missed by calling 9192 1169.

Full details of the changes including new waste and recycling kerbside collection route maps are available at the links below and will be delivered to residents’ PO boxes during March.
