Key issues for Miners Rest residents were outlined at a Community Listening Post hosted by the City of Ballarat last week.
About 60 residents attended the session at the Miners Rest Community Park to meet with councillors and senior council staff to discuss any issues they wanted to raise about their rapidly growing suburb.
An aquatic/skate park facility within the Miners Rest Community Park was the number one community infrastructure priority, along with a sports precinct, a dog park, walking and riding paths and seating options on the southern side of the Miners Rest creek/park.
Other issues raised were:
Improving school crossing points and connections Flooding issues Tree planting in the park and along the main roads The need for a designated town centre Victoria Street sealing to prevent excessive dust from increased use Additional Urban Landcare Group plantings on the southern side of the Miners Rest creekBallarat Mayor Cr Samantha McIntosh said the Community Listening Post allowed for residents to express both their wishes and concerns for their suburb with councillors and staff, in a family friendly setting.
“It was a fantastic and relaxed way to just chat with residents and listen to what they have to say about what they want for Miners Rest,” Cr McIntosh said.
“We know Miners Rest is growing at a really rapid rate and we need to make sure that we are listening to the people who know their suburb best, and act on what they tell us they need within their community.
“More Community Listening Posts are planned to allow Council to talk with residents in an informal setting and get the vital feedback we need to allow us to plan for our rapidly growing city’s future.”
