The My Moree team are encouraging residents of the Moree Plains to get creative and enter a locally-inspired mural design into a new competition on the My Moree Facebook page.
Launched on 6 March 2019, the competition will see the winning design take pride of place as a 14-metre-long artwork under the Dr Geoffrey Hunter Bridge. The lucky winner will also receive $500 prizemoney in reward for their creative efforts.
Council’s Senior Communication Officer Susannah Pearse explained that the mural installation is part of Council’s Mehi River Corridor Project which has been funded by the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund Round 1 and is designed to improve the overall amenity of the Moree township’s natural asset.
“Many residents have already taken advantage of the shared pathways delivered in the first phase of the project. This next stage will see the installation of a mural and LED lighting under the bridge, with static exercise equipment, additional picnicking infrastructure and seating to follow,” she said.
“We know that the Mehi River is of significant importance to our local people and culture and hence are keen to get the community involved in the project.”
Competition entrants have until midnight on Friday 29 March 2019 to create their designs and upload an image of the design to the My Moree Facebook page in order for them to be considered. Entries will be judged on the image’s popularity (likes and shares) on the My Moree Facebook page, its overall visual appeal and how well the mural represents the Moree Plains Shire and the My Moree brand.
“We know from the My Moree Photography Competition and the Moree Portrait Prize that we have a large number of incredibly talented artists in the region and we cannot wait to see what they think is emblematic of our region and lives on the Plains,” said Mrs Pearse.
Artists of all ages are encouraged to enter and designs can be created with any medium be it paint, pencil or PC, providing that the artist or their representative (for artists under 18 or those without a Facebook page) can load an image of the design to the My Moree Facebook page.
Interested parties are encouraged to view and follow the My Moree Facebook page for further updates. Full competition Terms and Conditions and details on how to enter the competition.
