On Monday 4 March 2019 The Capricornian opened their doors for business and officially brought banking services back to Springsure.
Made possible through the collaboration with Central Highlands Regional Council, this means an essential service has been brought back to the rural community.
Mayor Kerry Hayes said the opening event was a time of celebrations for the community, council and the credit union.
‘It’s unfortunately not new that essential services are leaving rural towns,’ Cr Hayes said.
‘But what we’ve shown is that there are ways to turn the tide and find innovative solutions, whether that is through partnerships, collaboration or technology.
‘We thank the credit union, our councillors and council staff involved in making this happen.
‘It is a matter of trying new things and we certainly believe that this project can be a long-term success.
‘It’s now up to the local community to support the business.’
