YMCA NSW and Broken Hill Council have today announced that the Indoor 25m and Indoor Hydrotherapy pools will be closing for essential maintenance between 8th April and 28th April (inclusive).
Works carried out during this time will include repairs to the hand rails in the 25m and hydro pools, painting and sealing of the underground holding tanks as part of a 10-year asset maintenance program, replacement of lighting above the 25m and hydro pools and other minor maintenance work.
City Council’s Infrastructure Projects Delivery Manager Michael Cain said the project would be jointly managed by YMCA and Council and that the upgrades will ensure the longevity of the facility.
“The Aquatic Centre is an important asset for the community and this project will ensure it can be maintained for their enjoyment. We have budgeted and planned for this work for some time and are looking forward to working with YMCA to ensure it is delivered successfully”.
As a result of the closure, YMCA NSW will still operate the pool gym and outdoor pools for recreational, lap and squad swimming.
Area Manager Shane Simmons said that ensuring that the community can still access the centre was critical during the closure.
“We will ensure the outdoor pools remain operational and as a result of the closure we will be offering a 50% fee reduction to all aquatic membership holders for the period of the closure. We will also suspend our swimming lessons program for the closure and see that program return on Monday 29th April”.
Aqua aerobics classes will operate in the 50m pool as per the advertised sessions while the hydro aqua classes will not run for the three-week closure. A range of outdoor fitness, seniors and dry land programs will be offered over this period at no additional cost to patrons.
Members of swimming clubs are encouraged to speak to their clubs directly regarding training sessions.
The outdoor pools will be closed effective Monday 29th April 2019 and will reopen in late September 2019.
“Every effort will be made to ensure the project is managed effectively to ensure the pools open as per the schedule detailed, or sooner if practical”, Mr Simmons Said.
