Ballarat’s diversity and community spirit were on display during today’s Power FM Begonia Parade.
Thousands of onlookers lined Wendouree Parade to watch the colour and sound of the numerous community groups, schools and businesses who made their way along the iconic boulevard.
All entries were judged out of 20, with up to five points allocated for execution, theme and design, creativity, and entertainment value.
The 2019 awards were presented to the following winners:
Mayor’s Choice Award Alfredton Primary School Alfredton Primary School pupils teachers and family members today celebrated their love of all things gardening and flowers.
Best Schools Entry Urquhart Primary School Joining DirtGirl this year was Urquhart Park Primary School. Pupils this year made their own instrument out of recycled materials to emphasis sustainability.
Best Community Entry Victorian Goldfields Medieval Faire Knights and maidens on horses gave those lining Wendouree Parade a sneak preview of what they could expect at their next faire later this month.
Best Business Entry Lana-Rose with the Ballarat Road Rodders Getting their rev on, Ballarat Road Rodders and Lana-Rose fashions teamed up to celebrate the cars and fashion of the 1950s .
Best Musical Entry BLOC Music Theatre BLOC Music Theatre today performed snippets from their production of Beauty and the Beast which they will be performing at the Wendouree Centre for Performing Arts throughout June and July.
The Councillor's Recognition Award was presented to Our Lady Help of Christians. This year, their parade theme was minibeasts lurking in Lake Wendouree.
One of few community parades still running, the Begonia Parade is iconic and a highlight of the Ballarat Begonia Festival.
