New playground for Fairfield East

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said Council is committed to providing local families with great places to play and be healthy together.

The updated playground features a swing set with standard and toddler seats, a bird’s nest swing, a play unit with a slide and springer, a circuit path, new seats for parents and guardians, new shade trees and a sandstone edge garden bed.

The playground is surrounded by softfall, providing a durable yet safe place for children to play and replaces aging play equipment at the park to rejuvenate interest in the outdoors. 

“I love seeing families and friends enjoying an active and healthy lifestyle together outdoors, whether they are kicking a ball, parents pushing children on a swing or enjoying a picnic,” Mayor Carbone said.

“Council is investing in facilities across the City for our residents – and we are not just focused on the big parks and attractions. It is important we also focus on ensuring smaller parks are maintained and renewed for local families nearby. 

“We want to make sure all local families can walk to their local park to be active and healthy, no matter where they live in our great City.” 

Council is investing $510,000 in the 2018-19 financial year renewing playgrounds including Percy Park in Fairfield Heights and is currently planning a new $1 million community park in Villawood at the corner of Karella and Koonoona avenues and a new $1.3 million community park at Deerbush Park within the Fairfield Showground precinct. 

Both Villawood and Deerbush Park were partly funded by the NSW Government.

The Montrose Park playground was supported by funds ($12,000) from the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Programme.
