Veterans Memorial Park is getting an upgrade!

Cessnock City Council will soon undertake works at Veterans Memorial Park, Aberdare and install a new playground. A project that many of our youngest residents are sure to be excited about!

The park is currently enjoyed by many residents, visitors, school children, fitness groups, families and walkers. The construction of a new playground was identified as a priority for Council as it’s visited on a daily basis by many local families and the existing equipment is in need of replacement.

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent said Council is committed to ensuring every park user has better facilities and improved access.

“The reserve is a gateway to the City of Cessnock enjoyed by visitors and residents alike. It’s essential we improve the site and provide better recreational facilities in our community. The park is a popular spot with locals and we want to ensure no matter where you are in the LGA you can come and enjoy wonderful facilities.”

“We’re doing some fantastic work in our parks, works are progressing well at Bridges Hill Park Playground and we’re currently installing shade sails at local parks around the LGA. Parks are important community assets and we’re always looking for opportunities to improve these community spaces,” Cr Pynsent said.

The upgrades to Veterans Memorial Park will see opportunities for increased social interaction, enhanced community identity and allow for a better understanding of the associated history of the area.

Council was successful in receiving grant funding under the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund for this important community project. Residents should expect to see the concept design starting early March. To keep up to date on this project keep an eye out on our website and social media for updates.
