Move paedophiles out of our area: Mayor

Council agreed unanimously at its meeting on 26 February, to write to relevant state and federal Ministers after it was revealed a convicted paedophile is living in the area.

“I’ve written to ministers and local members of Parliament on this issue. We will fight any moves to house convicted paedophiles in our City near schools, near parks or anywhere that endangers our community,” Mayor Carbone said.

“We want governments to see our City as a paedophile-free zone. We are built on families. We have more than 50 schools and 300 parks, gardens and sporting fields in an area with more than 200,000 residents. And the community has a right to know if a convicted paedophile is living near them.

“This is not an appropriate area for convicted paedophiles to be rehabilitated and introduced back into the community – in a house that was intended for providing refuge to victims of domestic violence.

“We need to speak up. The community wants its representatives to speak up about these issues and we want their voices to be heard,” Mayor Carbone said.
