Celebrating women in business at the La Festa Della Donna networking event, hosted by Liverpool City Council and Canterbury Bankstown Council, was a great way to finish International Women’s Day for Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller.

“It was a fitting end to International Women’s Day and a week that’s been all about women in Liverpool,” Mayor Waller said.

“This week we saw our new international airport officially named after Australia’s first female pilot licensed to carry passengers, Nancy-Bird Walton.

“The University of Wollongong unveiled another strong woman who will watch over our city in Bigge Street – the mural of Adi Holmes, a student at UoW’s Liverpool Campus, painted by talented female UoW alumna Claire Foxton.”

Television presenter and Me Too advocate Tracey Spicer was the headline speaker at La Festa Della Donna.

“Tracey Spicer is a fierce advocate for women, through her journalism, writing and public speaking,” Mayor Waller said.

“As Liverpool’s first female Mayor, International Women’s Day means a lot to me, both personally and professionally.

“Women have come a long way and there is further to go still. I encourage both women and men to think equal, build smart, innovate for change and keep striving for better balance.”

Girls Talk Women’s Work returned to Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre for the second year on the eve of International Women’s Day with three empowering discussion panels.

The event included three panels that recognised the role, impact and perspectives of women in culture, identity and motherhood.

These conversations aimed to empower women in different stages of life, with panellists from different cultural and professional backgrounds.

“Events like Girls Talk Women's Work are really important for broadening the horizons of not just young people, but everyone,” Mayor Waller said.

Liverpool City Library marked International Women’s Day with a workshop aimed at building career skills.

The interactive workshop helped participants build confidence and motivation to enter or return to the workforce.
