The City of Fremantle is celebrating all things cycling with free community events during Bike Week.

Held from 15 – 24 March, Bike Week is Western Australia’s annual celebration of people riding bikes for transport, fun and healthier lifestyles.

City of Fremantle Recreation Community Development Officer Erinn Litchfield said the City’s Bike Week events were a great opportunity for people to reacquaint themselves with their bike, brush up on their cycling skills or even try riding for the first time.

“Whether you’re new to cycling and need to build up your confidence or a regular cyclist, I encourage you to get involved with Bike Week and meet fellow riders in a friendly, supportive and fun environment,” Ms Litchfield said.

“As a bike-friendly city, Fremantle has dedicated on-road bike lanes, shared cycle paths, safe intersections for cyclists and bike parking bays throughout the city.

“Fremantle’s city centre is also a great place to cycle around with the Cappuccino Strip, West End precinct, Fishing Boat Harbour, Swan River and local beaches all easily accessible by bike.”

Registrations are open for the City’s 2019 Bike Week events.

Light Me Up Ride, 6pm, Saturday 16 March, South Beach

A leisurely night time ride where riders are encouraged to decorate their bikes and themselves with anything that shines, glows and sparkles for a chance to win prizes. 

Rusty Riders, 2-6pm, Sunday 17 March, Booyembarra Park

This workshop aims to build confidence in adult riders who feel as rusty as their bikes. Participants need to bring their own bike and helmet.

Cycle School, 3.30-5.30pm, Thursday 21 March, Fremantle PCYC

This course for school-aged children (6-10 years) improves bike handling skills and confidence so they can ride to school and for fun. Participants need to bring their own bike and helmet.

The Great Freo Scavenger Hunt, 2-5.30pm, Sunday 24 March, South Beach

Riders will explore Fremantle area by bike, have fun solving questions and be in the chance to win some great prizes.
