Council is inviting community input on a range of issues relating to youth mental health as part of the development of a Youth Mental Health Position Statement.
Residents are encouraged to come to a community workshop to share their feedback and help inform the development of the position statement.
Workshops will explore access to mental health support, services, education and information, and are being held on the following;
Tuesday 19 March, 10.30am–11.30am, Baringo Food & Wine Co, 283 Station Road, New Gisborne Tuesday 19 March, 6.30pm–7.30pm, Kyneton Administration Office, 129 Mollison Street, Kyneton Wednesday 20 March, 4.15pm–5.15pm (youth only), Woodend Library, 117 High Street, Woodend
Mayor, Cr Janet Pearce encouraged all members of the community to share their experiences.
“These workshops are about gaining insight into youth mental health service provision and education at a local level,” Cr Pearce said.
“Council’s recent Youth Strategy 2018–2028, ‘Elevate’ identified mental health and wellbeing as the issue of greatest personal impact for young people in the shire.
“Our hope is that the position statement, once developed, will send a strong message to young people on what we believe they deserve, and re-affirm Council’s commitment as champions of youth mental health.”
The Youth Mental Health Position Statement will be drafted following input from the community workshops and is anticipated to go to Council for consideration on Wednesday 26 June.
The development of a Youth Mental Health Position Statement is an action in Council’s Youth Strategy 2018–2028, ‘Elevate’.
