We’re planning a new Community Centre & Library for Warrawong and we’re asking the community what they would like to see included.

The call for feedback is the first stage of a long-term project that will see work start on the purpose-built space on the corner of King and Greene streets in 2023/24.

The new centre will replace the separate facilities in the suburb and Council is seeking ideas and information from the community to define what they need, and what locals would like from the centre.

“This is a very exciting opportunity to get involved in the first stage of this project,’’ Wollongong City Acting Lord Mayor Councillor David Brown said.

“We’ve been planning for a new library and community centre for Warrawong and its surrounding suburbs for quite some time. Back in 2013 the Warrawong Town Centre Master Plan identified the need for such a facility in the heart of the suburb.

“I’d encourage everyone to take the opportunity to share their thoughts on what they might like their library and community centre to offer.’’

Community feedback can be provided until Sunday 7 April and can be provided online through Council’s website, through Community Drop Ins at Warrawong Community Centre on March 13 and Warrawong Library on 22 March and at an Information Stand in Warrawong Plaza on 30 March.

Once this phase of community engagement has been completed we anticipate we will return to consult with the community on a concept design in 2020.

Council has allocated $10.26 million in the 2018/19-2021/22 Infrastructure Delivery Program for initial project costs. The total budget for the project is still being finalised and it will provide funds for the purchase of land, as well as the design and construction of the facility.
