Have you considered joining a new sports team but you’re not sure where to begin?

To support women interested in joining a new team a free Come and Try Sports Day has been organised as part of Harmony Fest and This Girl Can Week.

The event aims to showcase social and modified sports available to women across the region including Social Sixes cricket, soccer, Switch and AFL, while also encouraging community members from our diverse multicultural backgrounds to participate in sporting activities in Ballarat.

The free Come and Try Sports Day will take place at Morshead Park on Monday 18 March between 6-7pm, and all women are invited.

The Western Bulldogs will also host a Kids Zone, providing mothers, carers and relatives a chance to participate in the activities without the stress of wondering where their children are.

This event strongly aligns with the City of Ballarat’s Active Women and Girls’ Strategy which was developed to best guide future initiatives aimed at increasing female participation in sport and physical activity within Ballarat, while promoting equitable opportunities in the sporting environment.

From 6pm, the City of Ballarat will host a panel discussion with four influential women that will discuss their roles in engaging women and girls in sport and active recreation. There will be also a chance to give feedback about the day and discuss how participants would like to see programs like this rolled out across the city, as well as looking at solutions to any barriers that may currently prevent them from participating.

The feedback gained during the panel discussion will assist guide future campaigns aimed at keeping women involved in the sport they enjoy, while providing relevant pathways to existing sports and activities that are available across the municipality.

This free event is presented by the City of Ballarat and Sports Central.

As part of the This Girl Can campaign, the Ballarat City Football Club will also host a six-a-side Girls FC Cup tournament which will be held at Morshead Park on Sunday 17 March. Another local event supporting the Active Women and Girls’ Strategy.
