14 March 2019 - Media release

Campaspe Shire women are being encouraged to try something new and get active as part of VicHealth’s inaugural This Girl Can week kicking off on Monday, 18 March.

Regulatory and Community Services General Manager, Paul McKenzie said with one in five woman not engaged in any physical activity, This Girl Can aims to encourage more women to give physical activity a go, or return to exercise after a break.

“This Girl Can – Victoria has had real success in building a supportive community of women who encourage each other to get out there and get active,” Mr McKenzie said.

Council has been successful in securing a $14,000 VicHealth grant to promote This Girl Can and deliver activities to the community.

“Council is proud to work with VicHealth to encourage local women and girls to break the stereotypes holding them back from getting active and have a go,” Mr McKenzie said.

Echuca Stadium, Kyabram Stadium and the Echuca War Memorial Aquatic Centre (EWMAC) will provide a range of fun, free or low-cost activities tailored to women and girls who want to get active but aren’t sure about how to take the first step.
