Uiver donations nurture epic story

Among the items donated is a clip of recently-discovered film footage showing the original Uiver aircraft with Albury Mayor Alfred Waugh, an Uiver passenger and two crew members at Laverton in Melbourne in October 1934 – soon after the aircraft made its now famous emergency landing on a dark and stormy night at the Albury racecourse.

In a separate donation, prized objects that were gifted to Albury residents involved in the emergency landing have now been donated to the collection.

These items are a decorative silver bowl gifted to Beatrice Peacock and a brass vase, given to Ada and Arthur Telford.

AlburyCity Mayor Kevin Mack said the donations would add another layer of knowledge to the Uiver’s story.

“These objects have been acquired through the passion and hard work of the Uiver Memorial Community Trust,  Uiver historian Noel Jackling, and the staff at the LibraryMuseum,” he said.

“They will make valuable additions to our Uiver Collection, ensuring Albury continues to nurture the story of one of Australia’s most amazing aviation incidents.”

The new acquisitions will be on display at the LibraryMuseum until 17 June 2019.
