Immunisation rates on target

East Gippsland Shire Council’s immunisation rates are on target, with an average of 95 per cent of children aged one to five years immunised. Council aimed for this high rate, to meet State Government targets and has been able to achieve this coverage rate for East Gippsland.
Mayor Cr Natalie O’Connell said council’s immunisation team had worked to achieve the high rates of immunisation by following up overdue children and delivering flexible services to meet the needs of the community.
“We maintain relationships with medical centres to work together to address overdue childhood immunisation in the region,” Cr O’Connell said.
“The National No Jab, No Play policy has encouraged families to immunise before commencing child care and to retain family tax benefits.”
The Victorian Government has announced a free MMR vaccination (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) program for all people aged 16 and over. Adults born during or since 1966 and aged from 20 years with no documented evidence of two doses of MMR vaccine can receive up to two doses of free MMR vaccine from any Victorian immunisation provider, including East Gippsland Shire Council
“Council immunised 4,450 children and adults last year,” Cr O’Connell said.
'No Jab, No Play' is the name of legislation that requires all children to be fully vaccinated unless they have a medical exemption to be enrolled in childcare or kindergarten in Victoria.
