Bright Future for Soccer at Bellbird Park

Evening sport has a brighter future at Bellbird Park in Drouin with Council awarding a tender for the installation of eight new lighting towers at two soccer pitches at the reserve.

The junior soccer pitch will receive four 18-metre-high light towers, and the senior soccer pitch will receive four 22-metre-high light towers.

The $255,860 tender was awarded to Morwell-based contractor Ace Earthmoving and includes all labour, plant and materials for the works.

The motion to award the tender was moved by West Ward Cr Keith Cook and seconded by West Ward Cr Jessica O’Donnell at the 13 March Council Meeting.

This project forms part of a broader sports lighting project which will also see lights installed at soccer pitches at Trafalgar Recreation Reserve.

The overall project at both sites is being funded by a $250,000 contribution from Council and a $250,000 grant received by Sport and Recreation Victoria through The World Game Facilities Fund.

The project is being delivered in close consultation with the Drouin Dragons Soccer Club who are supportive of the new lights.

Construction is expected to commence in late March and be completed by mid-2019.
