Janet Isobel Jones has won this year’s Basil Sellers Art Prize exhibition People’s Choice award with her oil on canvas Lewis Island Mangroves.
Council’s creative arts coordinator Indi Carmichael said there had been well over 2,000 visitors to the exhibition since it opened three weeks ago.
“That figure doesn’t include the 600-strong crowd who turned out to christen the Basil Sellers Exhibition Centre on opening night, so a huge amount of votes were cast,” Ms Carmichael said.
“Our team of wonderful volunteers have been busy tallying the votes and the community have chosen a clear favourite for the $500 popular-prize.”
She said the Basil Sellers Art Prize exhibition closed on Sunday 17 March but returned in 2020.
“The next exhibition at the Bas is Deep Waters, an exhibition by Long Beach artist Shirley Goodhew,” Ms Carmichael said.
“Why not come along to the opening? From 6pm on Friday 22 March at the Bas.”
The Deep Waters exhibition runs from Saturday 23 March to Sunday 14 April.
