(15/3/2019) Freo’s Buster breaks records

The City of Fremantle’s Buster – It’s All About Play program is proving more popular than ever with local families after breaking attendance records at its summer locations.

Buster has been servicing the Fremantle community for over 30 years, offering toys, games and activities to children aged 0-5 years and their parents to encourage creative and fun opportunities for families to learn and play together.

Since kicking off on 5 February, the summer program has operated three mornings a week at Moorni Boorne Park in Hilton, Fremantle Arts Centre and Leighton Beach Park.

City of Fremantle Community Development Manager Beverley Bone said Buster’s recent turnout of more than 100 people at Fremantle Arts Centre was a record-breaker.

“Our other summer locations have also seen excellent attendances with a record 53 people at Moorni Boorne Park and 86 at Leighton Beach, so it’s fantastic to see so many families enjoying Buster,” Ms Bone said.

“It’s shaping up to be a big year for Buster as we introduce more toys and activities to cater for the larger crowds at sessions, and we’re really excited to announce Maritime Museum as one of Buster’s locations during the winter program.

“Maritime Museum is an amazing venue home to the winning America's Cup yacht Australia II and many other iconic vessels and artefacts, so it will be a wonderful opportunity to inspire children with our maritime history through learn and play.”

Buster – It’s All About Play is entirely funded and supported by the City of Fremantle since State Government funding was cut in 2017.

The summer program runs until 12 April, and you’ll find Buster on Tuesdays at Moorni Boorne Park (Paget Street and Rennie Crescent), Wednesdays at the Fremantle Arts Centre and Fridays at Leighton Beach Park from 9.30-11.30am. ⠀
