Cassowary Coast Regional Council is awaiting the final design details from a geotechnical engineer on the work and specifications required to repair a landslip on the Ella Bay Road near Flying Fish Point, east of Innisfail.
Mayor John Kremastos said the process of obtaining funding and planning the repair work took time and he thanked the community for its patience.
“We have had to install a locked gate at the start of the range on Ella Bay Road about 500 metres past Seafarm Queensland to prevent traffic from passing the unsafe landslip,” Cr Kremastos said.
The landslip occurred in the March 2018 flood event and Council has had to go through the process of seeking and achieving Government funding through the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements process to rectify the slip site.
“It all takes time and we hope people can appreciate that. Once the design is finalised, Council will engage a contractor to undertake the necessary works.
“The locked gate and sign explaining there has been a landslip are there solely to keep people out of danger and we hope they understand this. We will reopen the road as soon as the work is completed and it is safe to travel on.”
