Ballarat’s Phoebe Lewis, 9, has taken out this year’s Begonia Festival Garden Trail Competition.
Hundreds of children from around the state converged on the Ballarat Botanical Gardens over the Labour Day long weekend in search of their favourite book heroes.
It was all part of the Garden Trail Competition, a highlight of the 2019 Ballarat Begonia Festival.
Following the successful Gnome Trail Competition at last year’s festival, the 2019 competition was created to encourage children to use their imagination to explore the gardens and locate their favourite book characters.
With assistance from the Ballarat Foundation, the trail focused on heroes from their Imagination Library book program – a local program which aims to improve the chances of success for children by mailing them books each month.
Phoebe has won a $3000 Flight Centre travel voucher, which Ballarat Mayor Samantha McIntosh will present to her this afternoon.
The Ballarat Begonia Festival is presented free by the City of Ballarat each Labour Day long weekend.
