Batteries, paint, garden and pool chemicals, fluorescent light globes and motor oils are some of the household chemicals residents can dispose of safely and free of charge at the annual CleanOut weekend in April.
Council is partnering with the NSW Environment Protection Authority to host the two-day Household Chemical CleanOut to ensure the potentially hazardous items which can cause harm to humans and the environment are disposed of correctly.
“The Chemical CleanOut weekend is a great opportunity for people to dispose of any unwanted household chemicals in a safe and environmentally friendly manner,” said Mayor George Brticevic.
“The materials residents drop off will be collected, processed and recycled by a specialist company, saving valuable resources and keeping hazardous materials out of landfill,’’ Cr Brticevic said.
Gas bottles, floor care products, smoke detectors and fire extinguishers will also be accepted.
Only household quantities up to a maximum of 20 litres or 20kg can be dropped off. Commercial quantities of chemicals will not be accepted.
The event will be held 9am to 3.30pm, Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 April at the Campbelltown City Council Waste Depot, 59 Junction Road, Leumeah.
Last year’s event attracted 1366 residents who cleaned out more than 56 tonnes of household chemicals from their properties.
