Get back to basics and spend the night sleeping under the stars at Hanging Rock’s annual camp out on Saturday 6 April.
For one night only, a limited number of campers are invited to pitch a tent at the rock and soak up the mystery and magic of this unique natural feature after dark.
Mayor, Cr Janet Pearce said the event was a great opportunity to try something new, enjoy time in outdoors and experience the rock at night.
“Hanging Rock is one of those places in the shire that you really need to stop and spend some time just quietly soaking up the atmosphere.
“Not only is it a stunning backdrop for a number of exciting events, the reserve is also home to a wide array of animals including possums and echidnas.
“Hanging Rock is a unique place, and recognised by three Traditional Owners.
“To have the experience of being there from dusk to dawn is rare and special, and we hope this provides an opportunity to reflect on its history and significance to us all.”
Campers can set up from 4pm on Saturday and are encouraged to bring a tent, sleeping gear, torch, deck chairs, food and drink.
The local SES is providing a barbecue dinner on Saturday evening (gold coin donation), with a guided night walk exploring the reserve’s flora and fauna to follow at 7.30pm.
Bookings are essential, and can be made here.
Camping fees are $23 per adult, $13 per child and $59 per family. School and organised groups are also welcome to attend. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
