Ballarat (City) 20 Mar 2019

The Civic Hall was always known as a place for the people of Ballarat to celebrate special occasions, to engage with the wealth of arts and culture for which Ballarat is renowned.   It was too important to be lost.

After years of uncertainty about what the future for this place might be, we have been able to deliver on a plan to restore the hall as a community facility at the heart of our city.

And while it is a part of our living history, Civic Hall will now also be a part of our future.

March 1 marked the official completion of Stage 1 works at Civic Hall which resulted in the opening of a safe and accessible venue to the public.  These restoration works enabled the successful delivery of the hall's first events in more than a decade -  the Begonia Ball, the Ballarat Antiques Fair and the Committee For Ballarat Round Table Dinner with Sir Bob Geldof.

We have since received a large amount of interest in the venue which is seeing bookings locked in through to December across a cross section of corporate and community bookings.  Until contracts are finalised we are unable to announce some of the events, however it is suffice to say that the types of bookings are diverse with markets, theatre, live music, conferences, graduations, debutante balls and dances in the mix.

It’s an exciting opportunity for our city to once again have a landmark hall that will bring in some of the biggest names in the performing, creative and music spaces, while providing our community another quality venue for their events.

The Civic Hall adds to our live music and visual exhibition offerings, which goes to the core of the Live Music and Creative City Strategies Strategy, by providing our local creatives another platform to showcase their work.
