Council Works – Week ending 15 March 2019

“For the week ending 15 March, the following key works were completed by Council staff”, noted Council’s Mayor, Cr. Ray Thompson.

“Within the urban Lithgow area last week, Council staff continued worked towards the repair of burst services at Inch Street, two at Coalbrook Street, Amiens Street and Martini Parade. Restorations of surrounding infrastructure also occurred at Martini Parade, Wrights Road, Rifle Parade and Inch Street. Council continues to appreciate the patience of the community while assets are restored in these areas. Additionally, works have commenced on the construction of major stormwater improvements at the Marrangaroo Golf Club. Currently, all of the villages’ water is expected to flow through 300 – 450mm pipes which are not sufficient during heavy rain. To resolve the matter, 130m of 1200mm pipework has been purchased to replace the existing infrastructure. Ensuring this area flows freely is the first and most important step in eliminating flooding in Marrangaroo.”

“Last week, Council’s rural staff have completed the 2018/19 bitumen resealing program”, said Mayor Thompson. “Last week, Paine Street and Ilford Street Portland and the carparks off Lime Street have been sealed. Additionally, Sawyers Road, Skelly Road and Neubeck Street, Lidsdale have also been resealed. In the coming weeks, hotmix asphalt contractors will commence work sealing intersections in Lidsdale which have been identified has heavy vehicle routes to increase asset longevity. Once resealing projects have been complete, staff will commence Council’s gravel resheeting program with Hearne Street, Capertee.”

“I’m pleased to note that tender responses have been received and contractors appointed to a number of Council’s remaining capital projects”, said Mayor Thompson. “Contractors have been appointed to the reconstruction of 5km of Palmers Oakey Road, sections of McKanes Falls Road and Forty Bends Road as well as the construction of 1km of footpath in Lidsdale. However, staff are still all fully committed to other capital projects such as drainage improvements, gravel resheeting and maintenance works,” said Mayor Thompson. “In every instance, contractors are only used as a last resort where Council does not have the required resources to complete a project.”
