Speed date a neighbour at family fun event

The City of Albany is inviting the whole Spencer Park community and surrounds to celebrate Neighbour Day with a free family fun afternoon on Saturday, March 23 from 4pm at Spencer Park Primary School.

Each year Neighbour Day aims to give the community an opportunity to get to know each other, have fun and connect. The Day encourages people to build more relationships with those who live around them, especially the elderly and the vulnerable, with social connections and friendship linked to good physical and mental wellbeing.

The Spencer Park event will include family games, with life size versions of Jenga (tumbling tower), Connect Four and Chess, as well as an inflatable obstacle course.

Gertrude Wellease will also host ‘Speed Date a Neighbour’ Sessions, a quirky and fun way for people to get to know each other and meet their neighbour, no strings attached.

The event will finish with a screening of the classic family flick, Who Framed Roger Rabbit (PG) at 7:30pm.

City of Albany Senior Community Development Officer Tammy Flett said the Spencer Park Neighbour Day is a chance to have fun whilst making new friends.

“When we have better relationships with our neighbours it increases our positive mindset, health and sense of security,” she said. “By getting together at an event like Spencer Park Neighbour Day we gain valuable exposure to who our neighbours are, and how we can support each other.”

The event is proudly supported by the City of Albany, Department of Communities Growing Spencer Park Project, Spencer Park Primary School and the school’s P&C.

There will be agency displays from City of Albany, Department of Communities Albany Hospice, WA Primary Health Alliance, Relationships Australia, Albany Public Library, and Icebreakers Albany.
