Traffic lights will be installed at the intersection of Reilly Street and Wantirna Road, Ringwood, with the Australian Government announcing $3 million for the works.

Deakin MP Michael Sukkar visited the intersection today to announce the funding.

Maroondah Mayor Councillor Rob Steane said the signalisation would improve the safety for motorists and pedestrians at the busy intersection.

“Wantirna Road is an arterial road that experiences high traffic volumes as it is the only direct north/south access into the Ringwood Metropolitan Activity Centre,” Cr Steane said.

“Reilly Street is also a major road providing direct access to Aquanation and the Jubilee Park sports precinct,” Cr Steane said.

“Council has been advocating for some time now for this intersection to be signalised as traffic signals will improve access and safety to Aquanation, Great Ryrie Primary School, Aquinas College and the wider Jubilee Park sports precinct,” Cr Steane said.

“I thank Michael Sukkar for his work to secure this funding, it is yet another example of how well Council works with the Federal Government to get things done in Maroondah,” Cr Steane said.

Council will now work with VicRoads to finalise the detailed design and determine timeframes for the project.
