Black Saturday survivor shares bushfire recovery

Black Saturday bushfire survivor Anne Leadbeater will discuss her experiences in the Victorian blaze, when she is a guest speaker at the next Tingha Plateau Bushfire community recovery meeting on Wednesday 20 March at 6pm.

After living through the 2009 fire, Ms Leadbeater has become a skilled speaker and counsellor assisting people and communities dealing with natural disasters.

The forum, the latest in a series of community support meetings in the wake of last month’s Tingha Plateau fire, is being held at the Tingha Town Hall and will have a health and wellbeing focus.

It will be attended by a number of service providers who will be available to speak one-on-one with residents.

Armidale Regional Council Mayor Simon Murray and Inverell Shire Council Mayor Paul Harmon will also attend the gathering.

“The two councils have been working together on the fire recovery measures, as the Tingha township and surrounding areas prepare to move to Inverell Shire from 1 July,” Councillor Murray said.

Cr Harmon said a smooth transition to Inverell Shire and strong community support from each council was particularly important as the Tingha community came to grips with the aftermath of the February fire.

The meeting will begin with a free barbecue and all impacted community members are welcome to attend.
