Council is seeking expressions of interest for the renaming of the following road located within the Lithgow Local Government Area, as resolved in the Ordinary Meeting of Council held on 25th February 2019.

Existing Road Name: Old Western Road

Extent description: The southern portion of “Old Western Road” (approximately 3.229 kilometres in length) which is divided from the northern portion (for approximately 1.5 kilometres) by Railway Street and Sydney Road in the locality of Rydal NSW 2790.

Proposed Road Name: Bloody Cutting Road

Reasoning: The most distinctive feature of the road is a narrow defile, wide enough to accommodate a single vehicle that was cut by convicts in irons, through the rocky spur of the ridge some 200m above the old river crossing, therefore, the naming of the road to highlight the existence of the cutting would acknowledge local tradition.

Should any person wish to have input into the renaming of these roads, then written submissions will be accepted by Council up until Thursday, 11th April 2019. Please send your submissions to PO Box 19, Lithgow 2790. Any new proposals made should be in accordance with Section 6.7 of the NSW Addressing User Manual.

Further information may be obtained by contacting Fern-Alice Finn in Council’s Environment & Development Department, on (02) 6354 9999 between 11:00am and 2:00pm (Mondays to Fridays).
