Council is assessing options for the replacement or repair of the aged timber pedestrian footbridge at Lauriston, which was closed to public access recently due to safety concerns.
The old footbridge over the Coliban River which runs parallel to Lauriston Road was closed after it was deemed unsafe following a routine inspection by Council officers.
Council had already identified the footbridge as requiring upgrade or replacement in the near future and had allocated funds in the current budget for these works.
Alternative access for pedestrians has been arranged while the footbridge is closed. Barriers have been used to reconfigure the existing lanes on the bridge to provide a footpath area along one side.
The speed limit in the vicinity of the bridge has also been reduced from 80km/h to 40km/hr.
