New options to register your pet

Published on 21 March 2019

It’s now easier than ever to register your pet, as new pet registrations can now be made online on Council’s website.

All dogs and cats in the Macedon Ranges Shire must be registered with Council by 10 April. Council supplies a numbered lifetime tag for your pet, which must be worn on its collar.

Renewal of pet registration notices have been sent out to all registered owners by mail. Council’s Manager Community Safety, Anne-Louise Lindner said pet owners will also receive information about how to sign up to receive future renewal notices via email instead of mail.

“Council has introduced two improvements to make pet registrations more convenient for customers,” Ms Lindner said. “Instead of having to attend a Council service centre to register their pets, residents can now do this online. And we expect many residents will take up the option to receive their renewal notices electronically via email instead of by mail.”

Ms Lindner urged residents to ensure both new and existing pets were registered and microchipped. “Having a current pet registration and ensuring microchip details are up to date is the best way to ensure our rangers can return your lost pet to you quickly, reducing stress for you and your pet,” she said.

There are a number of ways you can renew your pet’s registration. These include:

Online at mrsc.vic.gov.au/payments Via BPAY Mail In person at a Council service centre.

If you have moved, changed phone numbers, or you don’t have your pet anymore, please make sure you send back your renewal form with updated details. This helps keep Council’s records up to date and helps you avoid lost renewal notices or unnecessary contact from a ranger.

Pet registration also enables Council to provide a range of animal management services including investigating dog attacks, providing education about responsible pet ownership, resolving nuisance issues, funding shelter services, regulating domestic animal businesses and implementing initiatives in the Domestic Animal Management Plan.
