Bookings are now open for the Term 2 program of arts and lifestyle courses at Wyreena Community Arts Centre, which run from April until mid-June 2019.
Wyreena Ward Councillor Tasa Damante said Wyreena’s Term 2 programs for adults and children are a great way to develop a sense of wellbeing or express yourself creatively.
“Wyreena’s programs for adults are conducted in a supportive community environment. Whether you have recently retired, transitioned to part-time work or are looking to make new social connections, these courses empower adults to learn something new or brush up on their existing skills,” Cr Damante said.
Wyreena’s program includes courses in drawing, painting, pottery, mosaics, yoga, meditation and more, as well as one-day programs for adults with special needs, and age-streamed children’s arts program conveniently held after school hours during school terms.
“The adult meditation and yoga courses provide a great way to relax, while also increasing wellbeing and flexibility. There’s even a yoga retreat in this term’s program,” Cr Damante said.
“For adult artists, beginner to advanced, there are courses in drawing, painting and mosaics that will fuel your creativity. Plus, there’s an exciting range of one-day maker’s workshops this term, including silver jewellery making, stoneware houses and learning how to use a pottery wheel.”
Due to popular demand, adult pottery classes will now be offered on Monday mornings. An extra evening Monday class in painting using a variety of mediums has also been added to the program.
“There are also art, craft and pottery classes that are specifically developed for adults with physical and intellectual disabilities, which empowers people to explore art alongside their carer,” Cr Damante said.
“Wyreena’s children’s program support children of all ages and abilities to have fun with art, too. Children aged five to seven can explore Learn to Draw classes, as well as the Young Artist’s Studio -– a mixed media class or creative young artists to expand their art skills and knowledge while being part of a small group.”
Wyreena also offers drawing, painting and pottery programs for children eight years and above.
