The draft plan outlines Council’s commitment and strategic direction to supporting a more accessible and socially inclusive community over the next three years.

Maroondah Mayor Councillor Rob Steane encouraged the community to provide their feedback on the draft document.

“We work really hard here in Maroondah in ensuring that we can cater for drafthe needs and aspirations of people with a disability. The previous plan resulted in some major achievements for our community including introducing Changing Places to Australia; starting the Pathways for Carers program; improving community facilities and access points in public places; providing mental health first aid training for community members; and updating Council’s website to be more accessible, including offering ReadSpeaker and easyEnglish on core pages,” Cr Steane said.

Cr Steane said the new policy and action plan was developed in conjunction with the community to ensure that it included the issues that were most relevant to them.

“While we have undertaken a lot of community engagement to get us to the draft stage, now is another critical opportunity for the community to have their say on the document before it is presented back to Council for formal adoption,” Cr Steane said.
