Armadale Regional Recreation Reserve - Lets Make It Happen

City of Armadale residents are encouraged to make their voices heard as the City lobby’s the Federal Government for funding to support the construction of a multipurpose sporting facility in Haynes.

The City is advocating for $30M from the Federal Government towards the construction of the $115M Armadale Regional Recreation Reserve (ARRR), which will accommodate a variety of sports and amenities.

City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said the development of the recreation reserve will have a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of the community, delivering huge sporting and social benefits for existing and new residents, and a range of existing and new sporting clubs.

"The multipurpose facility will be located at the Corner of Armadale Road and Tonkin Highway in Haynes, and will accommodate a variety of sports."

“The facilities will also accommodate those involved in mountain biking, walking and cycling. In addition to the playing fields, other amenities such as a community sporting pavilion and barbeque areas are also proposed.”

The project will comply with all environmental approvals and work on site could begin as early as July 2020, depending on the Federal Government’s commitment.

"While the City is financially committed to deliver the project, additional funding from the Federal Government would provide a significant boost and allow the City to move forward with its City wide community infrastructure program,” added Mayor Zelones.

Residents can add their voice to the campaign by writing to their State and Federal MPs, and also by leaving a message of support for the campaign on the GAPP website.

“The more voices that lend a helping hand to the campaign, the better our chances of securing Federal funding for this important project.”

Last year the City partnered with 10 other local governments across the Perth metropolitan area to form the Growth Areas Perth and Peel alliance (GAPP) to advocate for special purpose Federal Government funding.

Each local government in the GAPP alliance nominated a specific project as part of the campaign. The Armadale Regional Recreation Reserve (ARRR) has been identified as the priority project for the City, and grassroots advocacy from the community is considered vital to successfully securing Federal funding for the project.
