Macedon Ranges women are able to try something new and get active as part of This Girl Can initiative through local women-only activities.
This Girl Can aims to encourage more women to give physical activity a go, or return to exercise after a break.
To celebrate the This Girl Can initiative, a range of ‘come and try’ sessions will take place in the shire from March until May. These sessions will focus on the over-50 age group and include aqua aerobics, Staying Strong and Strength for Health.
The first ‘come and try’ session will be a Staying Strong Circuit held on Thursday 28 March at the Romsey Recreation Centre from 9.20am to 10.20am. Women can come and try this session regardless of their abilities and past experiences in a female friendly, fun and relaxed environment. This session will include a free morning tea, and giveaways.
Council received a $9,985 VicHealth grant as part of This Girl Can campaign to provide fun, free activities tailored for women. The This Girl Can VicHealth campaign launched in March last year and inspired one in seven Victorian women to get moving in 2018.
The campaign features everyday Victorian women instead of professional athletes or airbrushed Instagram models, and is about empowering women to feel comfortable in their bodies and to get active.
Mayor, Cr Janet Pearce said the initiative would help to improve the health and wellbeing of local women.
“I encourage women to get involved in the local events taking place. In the Macedon Ranges women are very supportive of each other and now’s the time to join with us and come and try something new.”
Women wanting to get involved can visit: Events or call Stephanie on (03) 5422 0246 to register for the event.
