East Gippsland Shire Council, along with partners, is proud to support the fifth Annual ColourFest, which offers a fantastic opportunity to celebrate young people’s contributions to community, talents and encourages community involvement.
ColourFest 2019 will feature live music, food, novelty games, stalls, the very popular colour throw, with thanks to the HEY group (Healthy Equal Youth) and much more. There is something for everyone to enjoy on Friday, April 5 from 3.30pm to 6.30pm at the Lakes Entrance foreshore.
Mayor Cr Natalie O’Connell said ColourFest is a perfect example of an event created by young people for young people to provide a safe place to socialise, have fun while showcasing some of the amazing contributions young people make in the region.
“Events like this provide a fantastic opportunity to come together as one, share stories, showcase local talents, promote social inclusion, diversity and celebrate the Victorian Youth Week,” Cr O’Connell said.
ColourFest is a free underage event for all young people aged 12-25, the event is strictly drug, alcohol and smoke free and is fully supervised.
This event has been organised in partnership with East Gippsland Shire Council and its Youth Ambassadors, East Gippsland FReeZA, key youth service organisations as part of the Youth Focus Network, volunteer organisations, youth groups and more.
EG FReeZA, a Victorian Government initiative, presents local young people with the opportunity to plan and deliver music and cultural events in their community and offers them a chance to develop a broad range of skills.
As part of the day’s celebration, Council will also launch the mobile stage gifted to the community by the Dahlsen family.
“We also want to thank the Dahlsen family who have gifted a mobile stage, sound and lighting equipment for the community to use at events and festivals and we look forward to it being well utilised throughout the region,” Cr O’Connell said.
“The stage and equipment can be hired for events through Council’s Forge Theatre and Arts Hub.”
